STIL 2007

Although the exhibition Stil (in collaboration with the Arnhem Fashion Biennale) in the Centrum Beeldende Kunst Arnhem turned out to be a success, it was not an easy task. With three floors to cover and a handful of preselected photographers, there was little left to do for us but focus on the design of the exhibition, or so it seemed. We treated each floor differently, from the candy coloured walls for the work of Maurice Scheltens to recreating the Paris bedroom of Capricious editor Caroline Niémant.
By asking for specific works, like the entire set of look books for Bernhard Wilhelm by Freudenthal Verhagen, we managed to achieve coherence.
Working together with co-curators Caroline Niémant and Anne de Vries turned out to be the most valuable ingredient for the success of the show.
Together with Caroline we developed wallpaper, pieced together from all the dead darlings and images used for the 6th edition of the New York magazine Capricious. An arduous undertaking with more then 176 images collected from 14 different photographers nationwide.
Anne de Vries selected five video works by Lisa Alena Vieten, Harm van den Dorpel, Nicky Zwaan, Dan Geesin and Esther Rots, reflecting a common fascination for the photographic still life in motion.
